LCSC signs two runners from Kearns High in Utah
Lewis-Clark State College cross country and track coach Mike Collins has announced the signing of runners Cody Glad and Richard Obele of Kearns High School, located just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah.
According to athletic.net, which Collins refers to as the premier source for running statistic in the western United States, Obele and Glad are ranked as the Nos. 1 and 2 high school seniors in Utah, respectively, for 5,000 meters. for the 3-mile distance, Oberle is ranked second and Glad is fourth.
During the past cross country season, the two ran in Utah's largest classification and Glad finished fifth in the state meet, while Obele was 12th.
"Both Cody and Richard showed interest early on this past fall and came up to visit in September and I was very impressed with both young men and they come in with some of the highest recommendations that we have ever had," Collins said. " Coach Jim Flanagan at Kearns felt that these two guys could be two of the top three runners in the state of Utah this season."
Collins said he also had some in-house help with recruiting the pair.
"The other recommendations came from two current Warriors, Josh Shrewsbury and Tanner Smedley (serving church missions presently)," Collins said. "They both indicated how strong Cody and Richard were in running and how they were breaking all of their own school records. This is pretty high praise and high accomplishments considering that both Josh and Tanner were part of the our national qualifying team from a year ago and part of LCSC’s school-record holding and national qualifying distance medley team."
Collins said both Glad and Oberle are good students as well. Glad being a member of the Cougar Club, which is an elite group of student-athletes that have performed well in the classroom and in competition and are also involved in other community and volunteer events.
" We believe both will have significant impacts in our program and the LCSC community next fall," Collins said.
The pair are the second and third runners signed by Collins for next season. The Warrior men's cross country team has been ranked in the final NAIA Top 25 poll for 10 straight seasons and has made nine straight appearances at the NAIA national meet. LCSC finished 19th overall in the meet this season.
