Newport High School senior Sophie Bush has signed a letter of intent to run next season at Lewis-Clark State College, Warrior coach Mike Collins has announced.
Bush has been a three-sport athlete for the Grizzlies. She participated in volleyball in the fall, basketball in the winner, and track in the spring.
In track, she finished second in both the 3,200 and 1,600 and fourth in the 800 at the Washington State Class 1A Track Meet. She has personal bests of 2:24 in the 800, 5:14 in the 1,600 and 11:43 in the 3,200.
“We are excited to see what happens when she starts to focus on running and training year round,” Collins said. “It may take a little time to adjust to cross country, but based on what she has done in track, we think she has the potential to be pretty special in the running world.
During the track season, she’s won the Coaches’ Award, Golden Spike Award, Captain’s Award, Most Inspirational and the George Johnson Memorial Scholarship. She also was the Outstanding
Female Athlete, Northeast A League MVP and a first-team all-league selection.
