8/25/2010

The Lewis-Clark State women’s cross country team is ranked No. 16, while the men’s team is ranked No. 20 in the NAIA Cross Country Coaches’ Top-25 preseason poll released Wednesday.

The women’s team, which made its ninth consecutive NAIA nationals appearance in 2009, earned 269 points. The 2009 NAIA national runner-up, Biola, earned 15 of 21 first-place votes and is the 2010 preseason favorite.

The 20th ranked LCSC men’s squad is led by five returning runners from the 2009 national team which placed 22nd for the second consecutive year. Defending national champion Malone (Ohio) is slated to repeat, earning the No. 1 preseason rank.

Both Warrior teams were voted No. 1 in the Frontier Conference preseason poll and are favorites to repeat as conference champions.

The Warriors will open the season at the Idaho Cup on Sept. 4, in Moscow.
