LC men use Warrior Invite win to advance in polls
10/27/2010

The Lewis-Clark State College cross country teams held strong in the NAIA Cross Country Top 25 Coaches’ Polls released Wednesday, as the men moved up two spots into a tie with Graceland University (Iowa) for No. 13 and the women dropped a spot to No. 24.

The LC men were propelled to No. 13 with their win at the Warrior Invite at Hells Gate State Park last Saturday. Dave Marks led the way, finishing third in 25 minutes and 24 seconds, with the next four LC runners also finishing in the top 11. The race marked the Warriors’ first win of the season, with their next best finish coming at the Erik Anderson Invitational where they placed second among several NCAA Division-I teams.

The LC women fell to No. 24 after a second-place finish at the Warrior Invite. A pack of six LC runners gained distance but could not surmount the lead of the Carroll College pack, giving No. 16 Carroll the win. Kelsey Klettke, who was named the NAIA’s National Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, won the race in 17:23. Her time broke her own record for the fastest 5-kilometer women’s time in LC cross country history.

The Warriors now look ahead to the Frontier Conference Championships, which will be held Nov. 5 in Great Falls, Mont.
