After its second straight week off from competition, the Lewis-Clark State College men’s cross country team slipped one spot to No. 12, while the women’s team remained at No. 19 in the NAIA Cross Country Coaches’ Top 25 polls, which were released on Wednesday.
The Warrior men received 303 votes in the poll and were passed by Olivet Nazarene, which tied for the largest jump in the poll this week when it went from No. 18 to No. 11 with 310 points. Fellow Frontier Conference member Rocky Mountain is at No. 25.
Despite movement in the women’s poll, LCSC stayed at No. 19 with 215 points, only four behind No. 18 Saint Xavier of Illinois. The ranking was the 96th straight for LCSC dating back to Sept. 21, 2001. The streak leads all NAIA teams.
Carroll is at No. 13 and moved up three spots in the poll, while the Cascade Conference has five teams ranked, the most of any conference, led by Northwest Christian at No. 5.
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday for the Erik Anderson Memorial Invite in at Plantes Ferry Park in Spokane. The first race starts at 10 a.m.
The top spot in the men’s poll is now occupied by Wayland Baptist of Texas, which drew 16 of the 18 first-place votes. Previous No. 1 Southern Oregon fell to eighth after finishing second to Concordia of Oregon at a meet last week. Concordia is now at No. 5. The seven spot drop by Southern Oregon is the largest ever by a No. 1-ranked team. The previous largest fall was to No. 5 when Life of Georgia did that in 1999.
Azusa Pacific received all but one first place vote to top the women’s field, while Cal State San Marcos is second and Biola third.
