The Lewis-Clark State College men’s cross country team cracked into the Top 10 for the first time this season with a No. 10 ranking in this week’s NAIA Cross Country Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, which was released on Wednesday.
The Warrior women’s team kept its longevity record going in the poll as it stayed at No. 19 this week.
The Warrior men, fresh off a third-place finish last week in a meet in Spokane, drew 393 points to trade spots with Aquinas of Michigan. Aquinas was No. 10 last week and drew 377 points in the poll to fall to No. 12, while Olivet Nazarene of Illinois remained at No. 11 with 389 points.
Western schools dominated the Top 10 with two from Oregon (No. 5 Concordia and No. 8 Southern Oregon), two from California (No. 6 Cal State San Marcos and No. 7 The Master’s) and one from Canada (No. 4 British Columbia) joining LCSC.
Wayland Baptist drew 18 of the 20 first-place votes to hold down the top spot. Oklahoma Christian is second, followed by Shorter of Georgia, which drew the other two first-place votes.
On the women’s side, LCSC stayed at No. 19 with 258 points, nine behind No. 18 Saint Xavier of Illinois. LCSC has the longest active streak of being ranked in the women’s poll with 97 consecutive appearances dating back to Sept. 21, 2001.
Western schools also dominate the women’s poll with six of the top seven teams and 12 of the first 19. Azusa Pacific drew 20 of the 22 first-place votes for the top spot, while Cal State San Marcos is at No. 2 and received the other two first-place votes. Carroll College, a Frontier Conference member with LCSC, is at No. 13.
The top 13 spots went unchanged in the women’s poll.
The Warriors return to action on Saturday when they participate in the 37th annual Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore. Several schools from the Pacific Northwest and California are scheduled to compete. The LCSC men will run at approximately 10:50 a.m., followed by the women’s race at approximately 11:35 a.m.
