The Lewis-Clark State College women’s cross country team moved up one spot to No. 14, while the Warrior men’s team stayed at No. 6 in the NAIA Cross Country Coaches’ Top 25 polls released on Wednesday.
The women’s team garnered 359 points in the poll to trade spots with Embry-Riddle which received 355. Ironically, it was Embry-Riddle which bumped the Warriors out of being ranked 14th in last week’s poll. LCSC was benefited by a sixth-place finish at the Inland Northwest Championships in Spokane last week. The Warriors defeated all participating NAIA schools.
Leading the women’s poll is Azusa Pacific which picked up 21-of-23 first place votes. Carroll College led all Frontier Conference teams with a No. 10 ranking. Rocky Mountain cracked the top-25 for the first time in program history and now sits at No. 22.
The Warrior women stand as the only school that has made 100 consecutive appearances in the top 25, dating back to Sept. 21, 2001.
On the men’s side, Lewis-Clark State retained its impressive No. 6 ranking with a very strong showing at the Spokane meet last week. Led by Jimmy Oribo who finished sixth overall, the Warriors claimed third-place against multiple NCAA Division I teams.
The LCSC men received 517 points in the poll and are only three points behind Friends University which jumped from ninth to fifth. Oklahoma Christian landed all 22 first-place votes and leads the poll for the third consecutive week.
Lewis-Clark State will hold its only home meet on Saturday in the Warrior Invitational at Hells Gate State Park. The women’s race will begin at 10:30 a.m., and the men’s is scheduled to start at 11:15 a.m.
The top 25 polls are voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups. The next polls will be announced on Oct. 26.
