LC men harriers finish at No. 7 in final regular-season poll; women are at No. 14
10/26/2011

The Lewis-Clark State College men’s cross country team slipped one spot, while the women’s team remained the same in the final regular-season NAIA Cross Country Coaches’ Top 25 polls, the NAIA announced on Wednesday.

The Warrior men, despite winning their own invitational last Saturday, fell to No. 7 this week with 485 points. Friends of Kansas also fell a spot to No. 6 with 512 points, while Shawnee State of Ohio climbed from No. 7 to No. 5 with 513 points. Shawnee State made its jump after winning a 30-team meet last Saturday.

On the women’s side, LCSC stayed at No. 14 as the top 11 teams also remained unchanged. Westmont made the biggest jump from No. 16 to No. 12, while the Master’s of California fell to No. 13 with 370 points. LCSC has 361 points, followed by No. 15 Concordia of Nebraska at 358 points.

The men’s poll featured quite a bit of movement with changes starting with Shawnee State. Oklahoma Christian drew all 21 first-place votes for the top spot at 591 points, while Shorter of Georgia is second at 567.

West Coast schools dominate the women’s poll with eight of the top 10 teams. Azusa Pacific received 18 first-place votes and leads the poll at 649 points, while Cal State San Marcos received the other five first-place votes for 636 points.

The LCSC women have now been ranked in 101 straight polls, the longest active streak in the NAIA. LCSC has been ranked in every poll starting with Sept. 21, 2001.

Both Warrior teams are in action on Nov. 4 in Billings, Mont., for the fifth annual Frontier Conference championships. The Warrior men have won all four titles, while the women’s team won the first three titles before finishing second to Carroll last season. Carroll is ranked No. 10 in the final poll.
