The Lewis-Clark State men’s cross country team held its spot as the sixth-ranked team in the nation and the women’s squad moved to 11th in the latest NAIA Coaches’ polls, released Wednesday by the league office.
The men are coming off a victory at last Saturday’s Erik Anderson Invitational in Spokane despite competing without a pair of top runners in senior Jimmy Oribo and freshman Dylan Crevelt, while the women captured third place.
The top six teams in the men’s poll were unchanged from last week, with Southern Oregon topping the rankings for the fourth straight time. The Raiders got 21 of 22 first-place votes and tallied 622 total points.
Cal-State San Marcos (598), St. Francis of Illinois (582, one first-place vote), Oklahoma Baptist, University of British Columbia and LCSC rounded out the top six, with the Warriors earning 524 points.
The Warrior women took third last Saturday paced by a trio of top-eight finishes from Kelsey Klettke, Chelsey Leighton and Sophie Bush, and made their 108th consecutive appearance in the Top 25 dating back to Sept. 21, 2001.
British Columbia was No. 1 for the second week in a row and will join the Warriors (men and women) in a stacked field at Saturday’s Willamette Invitational.
British Columbia got 21 of 22 first-place votes, with the other going to No. 3 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.). LCSC received 431 points overall, eight behind No. 8 Concordia (Calif.).
