The Lewis-Clark State College cross country teams are each voted as among the NAIA’s very best on Wednesday by the national office.
The Warrior men’s team held steady as the ninth-ranked team in the poll, voted on by a nationwide panel of coaches. LCSC’s women’s squad is slotted at No. 13, making its 111th consecutive appearance in the Top 25, a streak that dates back to Sept. 21, 2001.
The Warriors hosted the Inland Empire Championships in the Lewiston Orchards last Saturday, and both the men’s and women’s squads performed well against high-caliber competition.
The teams both finished fifth, and Dave Marks’ fourth-place individual finish earned him his fourth Frontier Conference Runner of the Week award of the season.
Kelsey Klettke also cracked the top 10 on Saturday, placing ninth.
LCSC’s men’s team received 448 points in the voting behind the top-ranked Southern Oregon Raiders, who topped the polls for the seventh straight week.
Southern Oregon received 15 of 21 first-place votes and 579 points overall. No. 2 British Columbia jumped three spots and received four first-place votes and 566 points. St. Francis (Ill.) got the other two first-place votes and stayed at No. 3 with 548 points.
On the women’s side, Cal State San Marcos held onto the top spot in the rankings for the second week in a row, earning 21 of 23 first-place votes and 652 overall points. British Columbia is No. 2 with 629 points, and College of Idaho received a pair of first-place nods and 607 points.
Frontier Conference newcomers Dickinson State was ranked 24th in the men’s poll this week and Carroll joined the Warrior women in the women’s poll with a No. 6 ranking.
Both Lewis-Clark State squads are training for the Frontier Conference Championships, which will be hosted by Carroll College in Helena, Mont. on Nov. 2.
