The Lewis-Clark State College men’s and women’s cross country teams each rose one spot in their respective national polls on Wednesday.
The Warrior men are up to eighth in the nation in the NAIA Cross Country Coaches’ Top 25 with 448 points earned from a nationwide panel of coaches. The women’s squad hops up to No. 12 in the nation with 407 total points.
The boost is especially helpful for the Warrior women, who at No. 13 last week, would have received the second-to-last at-large berth to nationals if the season had ended at that point.
Both LCSC teams have been idle since the Inland Northwest Championship in Lewiston on Oct. 13 in preparation for the Frontier Conference Championships hosted by Carroll College on Nov. 2.
Southern Oregon topped the men’s poll for the eighth straight week, receiving 18 of a possible 21 first-place votes and 588 points overall.
British Columbia was second with a first-place vote and 563 points, and St. Francis (Ill.) earned two first-place votes and 551 points.
Dickinson State climbed five spots to No. 17 in the men’s poll to represent the Frontier Conference.
Cal State San Marcos earned the No. 1 spot in the women’s poll for the fourth consecutive week, notching 22 of 25 first-place votes and 653 total points. British Columbia was second with 628 points, and No. 3 College of Idaho received three first-place votes and 604 points.
Carroll College held steady at No. 6 as the only other Frontier Conference squad in the women’s poll.
