The Lewis-Clark State College women’s cross country team remained at No. 12 and the men’s team fell to No. 19 in the final edition of the 2012 NAIA Cross Country Coaches' Top 25 Polls, announced by the national office Sunday.
The final ratings come following the completion of conference/independent/unaffiliated group meets last week. Both Warrior squads finished second to Carroll College in the Frontier Conference Championships in Helena, Mont.
With 404 points, the LCSC women were able to hold steady in the poll, however, the men, who were the favorite going into the conference meet, received only 251 points and tumbled 11 spots from their previous rank of No. 8.
Both Warrior squads now wait to hear if they are ranked high enough to receive at-large berths to the 2012 NAIA Cross Country National Championships. Team and individual qualifiers for the national meets will be announced on Monday afternoon.
The 33rd annual event will take place at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash., on Nov. 17. With an at-large bid, the Lewis-Clark State men would make their 11th consecutive trip to nationals, while it would be the Warrior women’s 12th straight appearance.
As the winners of the conference meets, Carroll’s teams received automatic berths to nationals. The Saint women remained at No. 6 in the final poll, while the men used their upset win to jump from being unranked to No. 15.
