Unbeaten Lewis-Clark State
registered a close victory and a
blowout Sunday in wrapping up the
Les Schwab Tournament at Harris
Field.
The Warriors downed Concordia 5-2
then demolished Eastern Oregon 13-1
in seven innings to go to 7-0 on the
season.
In Sunday's first game, Eastern
Oregon beat Linfield 7-4.
Although L-C was the only team to
win its three tournament games --
Concordia was 2-1, Eastern Oregon
1-2 and Linfield 0-3 -- a champion
was not officially declared since
the final round was scrapped due to
the cold-weather postponement of
Friday's games.
The three visiting teams all made
season-opening appearances in the
tournament.
L-C 5, Concordia 2
The Warriors immediately jumped
on Concordia, producing all their
runs and six of their 11 hits in the
first two innings.
L-C's two-run first centered
around Matt Vogel's RBI triple,
while the Warriors unloaded five
singles in the second, among them
RBI raps by Nick Currin and Vogel.
Allen Balmer also drew a
bases-loaded walk from Concordia
starter Mike Allen (0-1).
L-C starter Austin Weilep (1-0)
lasted six innings, allowing seven
hits and two sixth-inning runs while
striking out five and walking none.
Jeff Duda finished the game with
three shutout innings, yielding two
hits while striking out three, to
earn the save.
Despite committing five errors,
the Warriors did not surrender an
unearned run. |
