Former Warrior Frostad is
selected to Canadian Olympic
baseball team

Emerson Frostad, who helped
Lewis-Clark State College to
Avista NAIA World Series
titles in 2002 and ’03, has
been selected to play for
the Canadian Olympic
baseball team that will
compete in Beijing, China
next month.
Frostad, who is from
Calgary, Alberta, played on
the 2008 Canadian Olympic
Qualifying Team in Taiwan
earlier this year and went
5-for-10 with three RBI and
three runs scored in five
games. He also was a member
of the Canadian teams that
participated in the World
Championships in 2006 and
the Junior World
Championships in 2001.
Frostad, who plays catcher
and first base, helped LCSC
to national titles his two
seasons in the program. In
2003, he hit .354 with 11
home runs and 54 RBI. He was
selected in the 13th round
of the Major League Baseball
draft that year by the Texas
Rangers.
The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder
then spent the next five
years playing minor league
baseball. After a year of
short-season A League, he
played two seasons with
Class A Clinton. His first
year he had a six-game
hitting streak, while in
2005, he led the team in
home runs (16) and runs
scored (72), and tied for
the club lead in games (114)
and doubles (26). He
finished second in RBI (62),
hits (116), at-bats (367)
and slugging percentage
(.449). He played third
base, shortstop, second
base, first base and also
was the designated hitter
that year.
In 2006, he was moved to
catcher and played at
Bakersfield, another Class A
team. He led the team in
slugging percentage (.553),
ranked second in doubles
(30), third in RBI (51), and
fourth in hits (93), home
runs (12) and games played
(79). He also played for
Canada at the America’s
Olympic Qualifying
Tournament in Cuba that
year.
In 2007, he was promoted to
the Rangers’ Class AA team
in Frisco where he played
first, second and third. He
also made two relief
pitching appearances for the
team. After a hot start with
his bat when he hit .295
prior to the All-Star break,
Frostad cooled off in the
second half of the season
and finished with a .241
averages in 90 games. He had
13 doubles, 13 home runs and
44 RBI.
This season, he’s enjoying
another big year with Frisco
and even spent two games
with Oklahoma City in the
AAA Pacific Coast
Conference. He was selected
to the Texas League All-Star
Game in late June and is
hitting .257 with 21
doubles, five home runs and
34 RBI. In his two games
with Oklahoma City, he went
1-for-7 at the plate, but
the one hit was a two-run
home run. He played third
base in both games.
Frostad will continue to
play with Frisco before
reporting to the Canadian
team on July 28. He will
rejoin Frisco following the
Olympics.
