Warrior Men and Women Hoop Teams Picked First in Conference

Lewiston, ID-The Lewis-Clark State College men’s and women’s basketball teams are picked to finish atop the Frontier Conference, according to the preseason coaches poll released Tuesday, October 17th.

The L-C men (20-9 overall and 9-3 in the conference last year), the defending regular-season and post-season champions, picked up 48 points for the nod at first-place. Carroll College (9-18, 7-5) picked up 40 points, good enough for second-place. Western Montana (12-17, 5-7) and Westminster College (12-15, 5-7) are tied for third in the balloting with 35 points. Montana State University-Northern (19-13, 6-6) was selected fifth with 23 points. Rocky Mountain (15-15, 8-4) and Montana Tech (7-19, 2-10) both picked up 18 points and are tied for sixth and newcomer Great Falls is picked last with seven points.

"Being selected as the top team in the Frontier Conference Coaches Poll has a lot to do with the success we had last year and the number of returnees we have this year," said Lewis-Clark men’s basketball coach George Pfeifer. "This type of recognition is a positive statement about our program. We are very aware that all the teams in the league are vastly improved."

The Lewis-Clark State women (28-2, 12-0), the defending regular-season champs, are once again the favorite of the Frontier Conference. The Warriors registered 49 points. Western Montana (22-8, 9-3), the defending conference tournament champs, received 43 votes and are selected second in the league. Carroll College (11-18, 3-9) garnered 33 votes and were selected third with Rocky Mountain ( 13-15, 5-7) in fourth, just one point behind. Montana State University-Northern (18-14, 7-5) was picked to finish fifth and Montana Tech (11-17, 3-9) and Westminster College (4-16, 3-9) are tied for sixth-place with 16 points. Great Falls rounds out the field with seven points.

"We are honored to be picked by the coaches as the favorite," said Lewis-Clark State women’s coach Mike Divilbiss. "We have some unfinished business from last year and a lot of expectations for this year."
