Mens Basketball Excel in Classroom
Lewiston, ID-
The Lewis-Clark State College mens basketball team was proud to announce that 11 of the 12 members of this years team received at least a 3.00 grade point average (GPA) this past fall semester. Combined, the teams total academic GPA averaged out to 3.51 overall. Three players earned straight As, Phillip Way (Craigmont, ID), who currently holds a cumulative 4.00 GPA, and Josh and Zach Wilson (Orofino, ID).Ryan Bender (Shoreline, WA), who earned Academic All-America accolades last year, earned a 3.75 GPA. Other players who earned above a 3.5 were: Brian Meneely (Kennewick, WA), 3.77; Stan Divranos (Whitby, Ontario), 3.66; and Beau Barney (Grand Junction, CO) at 3.51.
Last years team had three Academic All-Americas in Bender, Jared Price (Gresham, OR), and Jeremy Jeppesen (Centerville, UT) and six players named to the Frontier Conference All-Academic Team.
"We are extremely proud and very pleased with the level of achievement the student-athletes in our basketball program reached with their last semester grades," said Lewis-Clark State College mens basketball head coach George Pfeifer. "To balance athletics and the classroom at the level they have is really a statement about them individually and collectively. To have 11 players earn a 3.00 GPA and above, and to have a team GPA above 3.5, is not something that happens very often in the mens basketball arena. This level of academic excellence is not obtainable without the on-going effort of the Lewis-Clark State College faculty and the commitment our players have made to the classroom."
