The Lewis-Clark State basketball teams opened their seasons with similar blowouts as they both dusted Fraser Valley in a doubleheader at Warrior Gym on Friday night.

The L-C women drubbed the visitors from British Columbia 90-54 while the Warrior men won 92-57.

In the men's game, LCSC had six players reach double-figure scoring. Senior forward Martin Brothers racked up team highs in points (19) and rebounds (six) while playing just 19 minutes.

Clarkston High product Justin Fraser, who started at shooting guard in his L-C debut, added 12 points.

The Warriors led by 13 at halftime, then limited the Cascades to 40-percent shooting and 23 points in the second half.

"We just re-emphasized some habits we've been working on," L-C coach George Pfeifer said of the defensive improvement after halftime. "And we shot the ball well (and) really shared the ball."

In the women's contest, LCSC blazed out to a 16-2 edge and never let Fraser Valley get within 11 points after that. The Warriors shot 51.5 percent and limited the Cascades to 32.1-percent gunning.

Katya Yancheva, starting in place of the injured Cami Kalbfleisch, tossed in 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting from 3-point range. Nikki Haerling, another player in her first game with the Warriors, gathered 17 points.

L-C also got 15 points from Ashley Baker and 11 points and six rebounds from Kendra West.

These clubs will stage another doubleheader this afternoon, with the women playing at 2 and the men at 4.
