Entering his 11th season as head coach of the Lewis-Clark State College basketball team, the wins continue to add up for Mike Divilbiss. The Warriors’ 21st win of last season gave Divilbiss his 200th career coaching win at the school. LCSC finished 25-7 under Divilbiss in 1996-97, including the school’s first ever victory at a women’s national basketball tournament.

In 10 years at LCSC, Divilbiss has compiled a record of 204-99, a .673 winning percentage and average of 20.4 wins a season. Of the 99 losses under Divilbiss, 16 have come at the hands of NCAA Division I schools. However, in 1996-97, the Warriors were 1-0 against NCAA Division I teams, defeating Brigham Young on the Cougars’ home court in Provo, Utah. Eliminate the 16 losses to NCAA Division I schools and Divilbiss’ record at LCSC is 204-83 (.711). Nearly every team record has been established since Divilbiss inherited the program prior to the 1987-88 season.

The Warriors have reached the NAIA national tournament two years in a row and Divilbiss-coached Warrior teams have been to the NAIA District 1 post-season playoffs eight of the last 10 years, reaching the semifinals all eight times. The cozy confines of Warrior Gymnasium continue to plague opponents. LCSC was 9-2 last season at home and over the last 10 years, the Warriors have compiled a 104-21 record for a winning percentage of .832.

Divilbiss earned his undergraduate degree in physical education from Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota, in 1981. He played four seasons on the varsity basketball team at Winona State. He earned a master’s degree in physical education from Eastern Washington University in Cheney in 1987.

Divilbiss, 38, is married to the former Judy Abts, who has a degree in physical education from Lewis-Clark State College. Mike and Judy have two children, Zachary, age 9, and Chantel, age 7.
