14-15, 2008
Hello
to all,
So I
took quite a hiatus from my journals and am
sad to inform you all this is one of my
last. I am the lone golfing senior graduate
of the 2008 class. It has been a great four
years and the ending I am sure will be
bittersweet. As the days continue towards
graduation and as I am still jobless, I
wonder how my life will be changing without
being part of a golf team. Truly the friends
I have made both teammates and competitors
have taught me a lot about golf and life in
general.
Well
that’s all the sappiness you will get from
me for now. So here is a little recap
because I know I am behind in my journals
and you need to know the facts. The women’s
team is currently in second place to Rocky
Mountain College by over a hundred strokes.
I am not saying we have given up on beating
Rocky but for us the conference was lost in
the fall. Our current goal is to beat Rocky
in the remainder of the tournaments and to
make it to Nationals.
As for
our first tournament, well we don’t really
talk about that one. It wasn’t pretty and
from the results we understood that playing
better golf was necessary. It could get any
worse really take my word for it.
As for
our conference play we had our first spring
conference tournament right here in Lewiston
at the Lewiston C.C. But before I talk about
our play in the tournament I just want to
thank all the supporters who donated hole
signs for our scramble. As a team we all
really appreciate the generosity of your
sponsors. Also I want to thank everyone for
coming out on that beautiful Saturday and
playing golf with all of us. It was great to
see parents and pillars in the community
come put to support the Warrior Golf Teams.
Ok
back to our first tournament. Well it was
cold, rainy, and we had to walk thirty-six
holes on a very hilly golf course. Good
thing we are young, fit, and ready for
anything thrown at us. It is amazing how
quickly weather changes, Sunday for our
practice round it was in the high 70’s and
sunny. Monday was just the opposite. As a
team we were very excited to battle Rocky on
our home turf. They beat us up pretty badly
and we wanted to make sure they knew they
were in Lewiston, home of the Warriors.
The
first round of the day was very cold and
quite wet. As for conference play Lewiston
C. C. always plays as the most difficult
course of the year. As for me I wasn’t very
happy about my start. But I got my head back
into the game and ended up playing well as
the standards of the day were high. I ended
up shooting 81 just one off the lead. Not
bad for doubling two of my first three
holes. As a team we did well, seeing as we
were ahead of Rocky. Juanita shot 80, Cort
85, me 81, Alana 85 and Sue Bird 84. Leading
always feels nice. We came in at 330, Rocky
was five behind with 335. As the day
continued the weather improved but everyone
seems to be dragging. The day really wore on
all of us. Again my start was rocky but I
knew that I couldn’t give up. Everyone on
our team looked exhausted, including myself.
Sticky fingers again shot 80, Cort 86, me
85, Alana 85, and Sue Bird 93. We got beat
by one for the round but we were still
leading by four. We were all taken back by
our high number, other than Sticky Fingers,
and knew that to win we must play smart. On
Tuesday the weather got a little nicer but
well I still didn’t consider it nice
weather, just nicer than the horrible
weather we experienced Monday. Again I
started off poorly, obviously I need to work
on my starts. Well the story plays out just
as we had hoped, we beat Rocky. Sticky
Fingers and Cort came out shooting both with
78s, a great score. Alana also faired well
with an 81, me with an 83 and Sue Bird with
an 89. We were very pleased seeing as we
beat Rocky by seven for the day and eleven
for the tournament.
Stay
tuned to our season because I really believe
we could do some great things. The next
Frontier Conference Tournament is next
Monday and Tuesday down in Salt Lake City,
hosted by Westminster. Can you all pray to
the golf Gods to send us good weather
because as of now it’s supposed to
blizzard.
I
promise I will be back again here soon with
another golf tale. Hope you all have a great
week keep watching, good things are going to
come from this team, I guarantee it.
