LCSC men’s golf team is
second, women are third, in own invitational

The Lewis-Clark
State College men’s golf team couldn’t keep up its
torrid pace over the final nine holes and stands in
second place after the first round of the Lewis-Clark
State College Invitational at the Clarkston Golf &
Country Club in Clarkston, Wash., on Monday.
The Warriors were
just 1-over par on the front side, but wound up 10 over
on the day for a 298 total, eight shots behind leader
Concordia University of Portland, Ore., which set the
first-day pace at 290.
On the women’s
side, the Warriors shot a disappointing 341 and stand in
third place, trailing fellow Frontier Conference member
Rocky Mountain by 17 shots.
The final 18 holes
of the tournament will be held on Tuesday with an 8 a.m.
shotgun start.
LCSC coach Paul
Thompson said the Warrior men played OK, but knows they
can perform better. LCSC, which is fell out of the NAIA
Top 25 in its last poll to the top team receiving votes,
still finished ahead of No. 7 Victoria and No. 13 Rocky
Mountain in the opening round. Concordia is ranked No.
20.
Victoria stands
third and 307, while Rocky Mountain is in sixth place at
324.
Patrick Casabonne
shot LCSC’s best round of the day, matching par with a
72, which was the second-best round of the day. Chris
Kneen shot a 74, while Joey Lovell and Nic Arrenbrecht
had 76s.
On the women’s
side No. 8-ranked Rocky Mountain has the lead at 324,
followed by No. 19 Victoria at 330. LCSC, which is
ranked No. 17, is third, while Concordia, ranked No. 14,
is fourth at 349.
Rocky had all five
players shoot in the 80s, although only the top four
scores are combined for the team score.
LCSC’s Juanita
Villa was one of four players to shoot 81 on the day,
one shot behind the two individual leaders. Alana Norris
added an 84, while Courtney Shrout had an 86.
