Victoria sweeps titles at LCSC golf tourney; Warriors finish third

The University of Victoria men’s golf team rallied from 17 shots back, while the women’s team maintained its steady play to sweep the team titles in the Lewis-Clark State College Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at the Clarkston Golf & Country Club in Clarkston, Wash. 

The Victoria men stood third after Monday’s opening 18 holes, but put together the best round of the tournament during the final 18 holes on Tuesday to shoot a 290 for a 597 total. Concordia University of Portland, Ore., shot a 290 on Monday, but followed with a 312 on Tuesday to finish second at 602. LCSC also stumbled some on Tuesday and shot a 309 to finish third at 607. 

Victoria is ranked No. 7 in the latest NAIA poll, followed by Rocky Mountain, which finished fifth on Tuesday, at No. 13, Concordia at No. 20, and LCSC is the top team receiving votes not ranked in the Top 25. 

LCSC’s Chris Kneen (shown above) finished third overall among the individuals with a 148 total. He shot consecutive rounds of 74. Nic Arrenbrecht and Patrick Casabonne shot 151s for the Warriors. 

On the women’s side, Victoria led by four shots after the opening round with a 330, and followed with a 332 on Tuesday for a 662 total and a 16-shot victory over runner-up Rocky Mountain. RMC had a 345 on Tuesday to finish second at 678, while LCSC was close behind at 682. The Warriors shot 341 totals on both days. 

Juanita Villa led the Warriors with a 164 total, which placed her third overall, two shots behind the leader. Courtney Shrout had a 168 for LCSC, while Alana Norris had a 172. 

The women’s tournament featured four ranked teams – No. 8 Rocky Mountain, No. 14 Concordia, No. 17 LCSC, and No. 19 Victoria.
