BUTTE, Mont. -- After a stomach-turning loss the night before, the Lewis-Clark State men shuffled their lineup and smacked Montana Tech 81-69 on Saturday night in a Frontier Conference contest.
The 16th-ranked Warriors inserted Martin Brothers and Adam Trombley in the starting lineup. They helped L-C hold the Orediggers to 29-percent shooting in the first half. LCSC built a 17-point lead by the break.
Warriors coach George Pfeifer said Montana Tech used the same defensive plan Montana-Western employed in a win over LCSC on Friday.
"They just packed in the key, and the night before we put our head down and drove it in," he said. "Tonight, we softened it up with some reverse passes, then we attacked the hoop."
Brothers, who has put together a string of excellent outings, tallied a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds. Backup point guard Ricky Frazier added 14 points and four assists while Dustin Endsley bagged 14 points and six boards.
And James Idoko, who was taken out of the starting five, came off the bench for 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
Down by 20 at one point in the second half, Montana Tech trimmed the deficit to 67-61 with more than three minutes to play. But in the closing moments, L-C outscored the Orediggers 14-8.
The Warriors (22-5 overall, 6-3 in conference) will be at home each of the next two weekends. And they'll welcome the FC's heavy hitters -- Rocky Mountain, Carroll and Westminster.
"Obviously we're disappointed with out performance (on this trip)," Pfeifer said. "Splits don't win the conference. You've got to get sweeps.
"The best part for us right now, we have the opportunity to have three really good basketball teams come to Warrior Gym. And we seem to find success there."
