BUTTE, Mont. -- The Warriors' emphasis on pounding the ball inside paid more dividends Friday night, both for Mike Gordy and everyone else.

Gordy missed only once from the field while scoring 27 points in Lewis-Clark State's 83-60 defeat of Montana State-Northern in the semifinals of the Frontier Conference men's basketball tournament.

"That's been our deal the whole year -- work it inside first and shoot the outside jumper second," Warriors coach Tim Walker said. "This team has really bought into that and really executed well tonight."

That was obvious in the stats of Gordy, the Warriors' 6-foot-5, 230-pound junior forward. He shot 11-for-12 and grabbed eight rebounds.

The 6-8 Chris Pitts added 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting as the Warriors connected on 54 percent overall and 59 percent in the first half while building a 45-27 lead.

"I thought our guys were really focused, played great defense and really set the tone (in the first half)," Walker said.

The Warriors (25-6) play for the title at 6 PST tonight against Westminster, which beat Carroll 73-69 on Friday night.

LCSC and Westminster (21-10) split two games during the regular season, each winning at home.

"They're really tough to play against," Walker said of the Salt Lake City school. "They're well-coached, they have a great point guard, they shoot the ball well and defend well. We'll have to get ourselves revved up."

Napoleon Gordon added 12 points and six rebounds for LCSC, and Teran Lee had 10 points.

Ronnie Simpson tallied 14 points for MSU-Northern, and Delvaughn Tinned added 10 points despite 3-of-19 shooting, including 1-of-11 from 3-point range. The Lights nabbed 15 offensive rebounds.

Warriors forward Jon Daly tweaked his sore ankle late in the game but is expected to play tonight.
