Watson is from Oceanside, Calif., and originally signed with the University of Wyoming out of high school. He played in 28 games and started nine as a true freshman during the 2003-04 season. He averaged 5.9 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He scored a season-high 21 points in the final game of the season against Brigham Young in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament. He started five of the final six games of the season and average 12.5 points and 3.3 rebounds.

He then attended Saddleback Junior College where he earned first team all-Orange Empire Conference honors and helped the Gauchos to a 28-3 mark. He averaged 14.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. He then sat out the 2006 season before playing for the Aggies last season.
