2007-08 Outlook
Warriors
Look to defend
their Frontier Conference titles
From Tim Walker’s 2007 Lewis-Clark State squad that
won both the Frontier Conference regular season and
tournament titles, and advanced to the NAIA National
Tournament, the Warriors return two starters –
6-foot-5 senior forward Mike Gordy, the conference
MVP and 2nd Team All-American selection
who led LC in scoring (16.4 ppg), and 5-11 sophomore
guard Napoleon Gordon, Jr., who was the Frontier
Conference Freshman of the Year 8.3 ppg and
team-high 57 steals).
The Warriors also return four letterman, including
6-2 sharp shooting guard Rob Comer (5.6 ppg and
team-high 49 3-pointers); 6-7 forward Jon Daly, who
appeared in 30 games and averaged 2.8 ppg; Caleb
Orr, who appeared in 22 games and averaged 1.7 ppg;
and 6-0 guard Karl Stedman, who missed most of last
season with an injury.
New to the roster this year is a talented group of
newcomers that include 6-2 guard Mikel Watson
(Oceanside, CA/Utah State); 6-7 forward Kasey Riley
(Rock Springs, WY/Sheridan College); 6-1 guard Brian
Duckworth (Fresno, CA/Sheridan College); and 6-3
guard Dorian Watson (Colorado Springs, CO/Sheridan
College); and Ben Thompson (Greenville, SC/Imperial
Valley CC), a 6-4 athletic forward. Senior 5-10
guard Justin Fraser (Clarkston, WA) is also back
after a two-year absence to repair damage to his
knees. Max Papendieck (Adelaide,
Australia/Pembroke High School), a 6-3 guard, will
be a freshman this year after a redshirt season last
year.
Two new freshmen have been added to this year’s team
and include Lewiston native Andrew Packwood
(Lewiston High School). Packwood is a 6-8 forward
who has a lot of the tools it takes to be a good
college player. Anthony Burtley (Lompoc, CA/Lompoc
High School) is a 6-5 shooting guard who was an
Honorable Mention McDonald’s All-American nominee
last season.
Lewis-Clark State College lost three starters from
last year’s championship team – 6-3 guard Teran Lee,
who was the conference’s co-MVP with Gordy, a 3rd
Team All-American selection, and was second on the
team in scoring (14.3 ppg); Keith Scarbrough, a 6-4
shooting wing who averaged 5.7 ppg; and Chris Pitts,
a 6-8 forward who led the team in rebounding at 6.2
rpg. Other key losses were part time starters
Steven Thompson, a 6-3 guard, and Jared Tikker, a
6-7 forward. Both averaged 5.4 ppg last season.
In 2007,
the Warriors won both the Frontier Conference
regular season (12-2/first time since 2004-05 when
it was co-champs with Westminster) and Tournament
(last title was in 2004-05) championships. LC State
finished with an overall record of 26-7, which is
the second most wins in school history for a
season. Under Coach Walker, the Warriors also gave
up only 60.3 ppg, which ranked second among all NAIA
schools.
