LCSC men fall
98-64 in opening round

FORT LEWIS, Colo. -- The
Lewis-Clark State
College men's basketball
team couldn't keep up
with hot shooting Fort
Lewis College and fell
98-64 in the opening
round of the Skyhawk
Basketball Classic on
Friday night.
The Warriors, 6-3
overall, were outscored
50-29 in the second half
as depth issues caught
up with them.
LCSC was without
starting point guard
Napoleon Gordon, who is
attending his
grandfather's funeral
this weekend and also
was missing Kasey Riley
because of an injury.
The result was Fort
Lewis' bench was able to
outscore the Warrior
bench 40-14 in the game.
LCSC senior forward Mike
Gordy and junior guard
Brian Duckworth each
finished with 15 points.
Duckworth also added six
rebounds, four assists
and two steals.
Justin Fraser also
finished in double
figures for LCSC with 10
points, while Mikel
Watson added eight.
The Warriors finished
just 20-of-49 from the
field in the game for 41
percent shooting. LCSC
also was outrebounded
49-27 in the contest and
finished with 17
turnovers.
Devon Manning led Fort
Lewis, 4-1 overall, with
21 points, while Ryan
Johnson added 16.
The Skyhawks finished
38-of-76 from the field
for 50 percent, and
12-of-32 from the
3-point line, 37.5
percent.
In the other first-round
game, Adams State defeat
Mankato State 80-78 in
overtime.
In Saturday's play,
Adams State and LCSC
will meet at 3 p.m.,
followed by Mankato
State and Fort Lewis at
7 p.m. Fort Lewis, Adams
State, and Mankato State
are all NCAA Division II
teams.
