LCSC men roll to 71-45 win over Great Falls

 1-10-08

LEWISTON, Idaho – Using pressure and quickness to force 27 turnovers and hitting 10 of its first 13 3-point shots, the Lewis-Clark State College men’s basketball team made quick work of the University of Great Falls in rolling to a 71-45 Frontier Conference win at the LCSC Activity Center on Thursday night.

The Warriors, 2-0 in league and 11-5 overall, won their fifth straight game by forcing 10 turnovers and hitting six 3-pointers in the first 10 minutes of the game to grab a 23-6 lead. Great Falls, 0-3 and 4-9, never got closer than 14 the rest of the way and trailed by as much as 33 in the second half.

LCSC used turnovers to spark its fastbreak offense, and with the Great Falls defense packed inside to stop senior post Mike Gordy, the Warriors found the 3-point line inviting and finished 10-of-17 from the arc for 58.8 percent.

Gordy, who was a second-team NAIA All-American last season, finished with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. He also hit 2-of-3 from the 3-point line. He also had a game-high eight rebounds, and added two assists and a steal.

Junior guard Justin Fraser scored 16 points off the bench, hitting 4-of-5 3-point shots, while Rob Comer (shown above) added 12 points and hit both of his 3-point attempts. J.R. Gordon added seven points, four assists, seven rebounds, and four steals, while Brian Duckworth also had seven points with five assists and two steals.

As a team, LCSC was 27-of-56 from the field for 48.2 percent. The Warriors were above 50 percent for most of the night until cooling off at the end of the game.

The Warrior defense held Great Falls to just 16-of-48 shooting for 33 percent accuracy.

Jay Jamison led the Argonauts with 11 points, while Rayshaun Ames had 10.

The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday night when they play host to Montana State-Northern at the Activity Center. Tipoff is at 8 p.m.
