LCSC
men’s basketball adds 6-7
forward Shepard
05-07-08
LEWISTON, Idaho – Greg
Shepard, a 6-foot-7 forward
from Sunset High School in
Portland, Ore., has signed a
letter-of-intent to play for
the Lewis-Clark State
College men’s basketball
team next season, the
Warrior coaching staff has
announced.
Shepard, who weighs 200
pounds, averaged roughly 12
points and seven rebounds a
game last season for Sunset,
which wound up finishing
third in the Oregon State
Tournament with a 25-5
record. Shepard helped
Sunset win the Metro League
title outright, marking the
first time that someone
other than Jesuit High won
the title outright in nearly
a decade.
Shepard earned second-team
all-Metro League honors and
was named his team’s Most
Inspirational Player.
He played his three previous
seasons at Westview High,
also in Portland, where his
team finished fifth at state
both his sophomore and
junior seasons. Shepard
started as a sophomore, but
was injured his junior
season. At state both
seasons, his team played
against Kevin Love, who was
a standout freshman at UCLA
this past season.
Shepard, who also plays for
an AAU team, participated in
football his freshman year.
He said he feels his
knowledge of the game is
perhaps his strength, and
that he is also an unselfish
player who has a fairly good
all-around game.
Shepard said he chose LCSC
because of how well he got
along with the coaching
staff and team during a
recruiting visit.
“The coaching staff made me
feel welcome,” Shepard said.
“They are great people, it’s
a great campus, and my
future teammates are really
cool. They really made me
feel welcome.”
Shepard said he plans to
major in Business
Administration at LCSC.
LCSC is coming off a 22-10
season and won both the
Frontier Conference regular
season and tournament titles
for the second straight
season, the first time it
has been accomplished since
LCSC joined the league in
1999. The Warriors lose six
seniors from the squad,
including conference MVP
Mike Gordy.
