Because of travel problems created by record snowfall in the Spokane area, the Lewis-Clark State College men’s basketball team won’t be able to take part in the two-day DeBeni Holiday Classic in Arcada, Calif., which begins tonight.
After treacherous roads lengthened the usual two-hour drive from Lewiston to the Spokane airport to more than five hours, the team was greeted with a series of air flight delays and cancellations. The best arrangement LCSC could make was to send five players on a flight that would have arrived before LCSC’s scheduled opener in the tournament, hosted by Humboldt State University. The remainder of the team wouldn’t arrive until Saturday.
However, because those two flights were not guaranteed to take place and with more snow in the Spokane forecast, the Warrior coaching staff and tournament organizers decided it was best if LCSC didn’t attempt to make the trip. Tournament organizers found Simpson University available and it will fill in for LCSC in the tournament.
The Warriors are now off until Dec. 28, a Sunday, when they play host to Cascade College at 7 p.m. LCSC then plays host to Walla Walla University on Saturday, Jan. 3.
