Shedrick Nelson, a 6-foot-2 guard from Highline Community College, has signed a letter-of-intent to play for the Lewis-Clark State College men’s basketball team, Warrior coach Tim Walker has announced.
Playing under experienced coach Ché Dawson, Nelson led HCC in scoring as he averaged 14.3 points per game, and was second on the team with 6.6 rebounds.
“Shedrick is an athletic guard with size and strength,” Walker said. “He shoots the ball well from 3-point territory and rebounds well for his position. He also is a great defender.”
Nelson, who is from Tacoma,Wash., helped the Thunderbirds to a 15-1 league record and a 22-9 mark overall last season as a sophomore. During the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges tournament he averaged 13 points and 6.3 rebounds per game to go with a 43-percent mark from behind the 3-point line. He scored 17 points and collected seven rebounds in an NWAACC semi-finals game against Lower Columbia College.
As someone who shot 43-percent from behind the arc last season (65-of-152), Nelson has the potential to improve the Warriors’ attack from the outside.
