James Craft, a 7-foot, 230-pound center from Glen Allen, Va., will transfer to Lewis-Clark State College and play for the Warrior men’s basketball team this season, LCSC coach Tim Walker has announced.

Craft, who will be a junior, comes to LCSC from Tennessee State, an Ohio Valley Conference member. He played there one season after sitting out a year and transferring from Wright State.

Craft played in 25 games for the Tigers last season and started four. He averaged 1.6 rebounds and 1.2 points per game. He scored a season high 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, and scored six points during a crucial stretch of the game against Murray State in the semifinals of the conference tournament. The 83-75 upset win helped the Tigers advance to the tournament championship game for the first time since 1998, but it fell to Austin Peay 82-64. He also had a season-high six rebounds against Akron.

Craft finished the season shooting 41.2 percent from the field (14-of-34) and also blocked 11 shots.

During his freshman season at Wright State in 2005-06, he played in 17 games and averaged 0.5 points and 0.5 rebounds per outing.

Craft split time between Ohio and Virginia during his high school years, and finished up at Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania. During his senior season, he drew interest from Wright State, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Rider, Fordham, and South Florida.

"James is very skilled for a big man," LCSC coach Tim Walker said.  "He faces up really well, can shoot the ball from the perimeter, and runs the floor and moves well for a big guy.  He's very effective at the rim because he's so long.  Defensively, he will definitely change things in the paint for us, hopefully making it hard for people to score at the front of the rim.  We're very excited he chose LC."

LCSC is coming off a 22-10 season and won both the Frontier Conference regular season and tournament titles for the second straight season, the first time it has been accomplished since LCSC joined the league in 1999. The Warriors lost six seniors from the squad, including conference MVP Mike Gordy. The Warriors only have two players taller than 6-foot-4 returning next season.
