The Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball team was chosen as the favorite by the Frontier Conference coaches in the league’s annual preseason coaches’ poll, which was released Tuesday. The LCSC men were picked to finish tied for fourth.
The Warrior women received seven first-place votes and ended up with 49 points to beat out Carroll College which had 40.5 points and last year’s regular season champion Westminster College which collected 38.5.
On the men’s side, Westminster was picked as the favorite with five first-place votes, followed by last year’s NAIA national champion Rocky Mountain which claimed three first-place votes, and Montana Western finished third. MSU-Northern earned 28 points in the poll to tie the Warriors for fourth.
Votes were 7 points for first, 6 points for second, 5 points for third, 4 points for fourth, 3 points for fifth, 2 points for sixth and one point for seventh.
Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
The Warrior men kick off their season in College Place, Wash., against Johnson and Wales University on Oct. 30. The women’s first contest will be an exhibition game at Washington State on Nov. 1. Then on Nov. 2 both squads will play home openers against Northwest Christian.
