Despite playing only one game last week and against a ranked NAIA team, the Lewis-Clark State College men’s basketball team fell out of the NAIA Top 25 poll on Monday.
In fact, the Warriors received only one vote in the poll, which left them tied for No. 38.
LCSC lost to then No. 22-ranked Westminster 82-70 last Saturday, which not only nearly knocked the Warriors completely out of receiving votes, but also caused Westminster to fall one spot in the poll.
Both teams falling in the poll is indicative of what the Frontier Conference has been like during the first three weeks of league play. Montana State-Northern, which was unranked last week, is now ranked No. 19 and leads the conference with a 4-1 mark. Overall, MSU-Northern is 15-5.
Westminster, Carroll, which received the most votes of teams that didn’t crack the Top 25, Montana Western, and LCSC are all 3-2, while Montana Tech is 2-4. Great Falls and Rocky Mountain are 1-4.
The Warriors, 13-5 overall, complete the first half of league play this week when they play host to MSU-Northern at 8 p.m. on Thursday and Great Falls, 8-12 overall, at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Thursday’s contest is 2-for-1 night with tickets available for purchase at all Happy Day Restaurants in Lewiston and Clarkston.
With LSU Shreveport suffering its first loss over the weekend, Robert Morris of Illinois slides into the No. 1 position in the poll. Following Robert Morris on the list is No. 2 Concordia (Calif.), No. 3 LSU Shreveport, No. 4 Mountain State (W.Va.) and No. 5 Azusa Pacific (Calif.).
