The Lewis-Clark State College men’s basketball team remained at the No. 5 spot in the NAIA Division I Coaches’ Top 25 poll, released Tuesday by the national office.
It’s the sixth straight week the Warriors (23-3 overall, 8-3 Frontier Conference) have been among the top five teams in the nation after never having been ranked higher than 10th in program history entering the season.
LCSC won both of its games this week, thumping Multnomah University 133-94 last Tuesday night at the Activity Center before keeping the offensive onslaught going in a 93-75 conference victory at Montana Tech on Saturday.
Lewis-Clark State received 244 points in the paneling of coaches nationwide, which was topped for the fifth consecutive week by undefeated Columbia (Mo.) which is 25-0 on the season and received all 11 first-place votes.
The rest of the top five was unchanged from last Tuesday’s poll, with Lee (Tenn.), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), John Brown (Ark.) and LCSC falling in line behind Columbia.
Fellow Frontier Conference squads MSU-Northern and Westminster swapped places in the rankings this week, with the Lights jumping up to No. 12 and the Griffins dropping to No. 18.
Montana Western received votes in the poll as the fourth Frontier Conference squad recognized by the coaches.
Lewis-Clark State, which enters the final two weeks of conference play a half-game behind MSU-Northern for first place in the Frontier, hosts a pair of games at the Activity Center this week.
Dickinson State comes to Lewiston on Thursday night before Rocky Mountain comes to call on Saturday night. Tip time for both games is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
