Bolte named third team All-American, Jacob Champoux honorable mention
3/20/2013

Senior forward P.J. Bolte was named a third-team All-American on Wednesday by the NAIA national office, marking the first time since 2008 that a member of the Warrior program was honored among the best in the nation. Junior guard Jacob Champoux was selected as an honorable mention pick.

“I’m happy for both of those guys. They had great seasons and deserve this type of recognition,” said LCSC coach Brandon Rinta, who led the Warriors to a 26-6 record in his second season in Lewiston, a national championship berth and a Frontier Conference title. “I think their recognition is reflective of the success the program has had and the improvement we’ve made, and I think there could have been multiple guys who could have easily garnered this type of individual recognition.”

Bolte, from Tacoma, Wash., and Champoux, from Seattle, become the first Warriors to be honored since Mike Gordy was named to the NAIA first team in 2008.

The selections for first, second, third and honorable mention squads were made by the NAIA Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Association All-America Committee.

Bolte led LCSC in points (17.2) and rebounds (6.1) per game, coming off the bench for all 32 games for LCSC in his final collegiate campaign. His scoring numbers and field goal percentage all ranked him in the top 30 in NAIA Division I for the season, and he was near the top of the Frontier Conference in the same categories.

He was rewarded with a selection to the All-Frontier Conference first team, and was named Sixth Man of the Year after a balloting of league coaches.

Champoux made his mark almost immediately with the Warriors after transferring from North Seattle Community College as a perimeter marksman and late-game specialist.

He averaged 12.5 points per game for Lewis-Clark State, and finished the season as the nation’s top 3-point shooter, shooting 53.2 percent (50-for-94) from beyond the arc.

Champoux appeared in every game but one in his first season in Lewiston, starting 29. He was named second team All-Conference after the regular season.

“It just goes back to the success of our program as a whole,” Rinta said. “You have to have good players, and P.J. and Jacob have been very dedicated to what we’re trying to build here at Lewis-Clark State.”
