LEWISTON, ID--The 23rd-ranked Westminster College of Salt Lake City, UT Griffins held off a scrappy Lewis-Clark State team, 80-78, in a Frontier Conference mens basketball game, Saturday night, at Warrior Gymnasium.
Westminster (14-6, 7-0 Frontier Conference) raced out to a 17-4 lead, and rode that to a 47-27 lead at the half. The lead then ballooned to 25, 53-28, with 18:14 remaining, when Lewis-Clark State (13-8, 5-2) decided to make a run. A 32-11 run, by the Warriors, over the next 11:19, cut the lead to nine, at 69-60. Lewis-Clark State would then get as close as one point, 79-78, as Brian Meneely (Kennewick, WA) drained a jump shot with 48 seconds left. Brad Bentley of Westminster sank one-of-two free throws to increase the lead to two with 15 seconds left. Jeremy Jeppesen (Centerville, UT) threw up an 18-footer with one second remaining, but the ball went off the backboard.

Meneely poured in a season-high 17 points, despite playing with several stitches from an injury sustained last Saturday against Carroll College. Ryan Bender (Shoreline, WA) notched his fourth double-double of the season, with 10 points and 11 rebounds, coming off of the bench, and also added six assists. Beau Barney (Grand Junction, CO) and Jared Price (Gresham, OR) each tallied 13 points.
