Defending champ Warriors announce baseball schedule

12-14-06

The Lewis-Clark State College baseball team will play host to three tournaments to start the season and will play a Region I schedule as required to highlight the 2007 season schedule, which was finalized Wednesday.

The Warriors, who are coming off their 14th NAIA World Series title from a year ago when the team posted a 47-8 record, will kick off the season on Feb. 16 in the Regence BlueShield Tournament at Lewiston’s Harris Field. LCSC will meet Concordia of Portland in its season opener at 2 p.m. that day. Also taking part in the tournament will be Albertson and Whitworth.

LCSC will join Missouri Western, St. Martin’s and Western Oregon for the Guardian Plumbing, Heating * A/C Tournament on Feb. 23-25. Missouri Western, an NCAA Division II school, is coached by Buzz Verduzco, who played at Washington State University in the mid-1980s.

The annual Banana Belt Tournament will be held March 1-4 and will feature Washington State, Gonzaga, Air Force, Southern Utah, and Utah Valley. All games will be at Harris Field except WSU will play three games in Pullman during the tournament.

As per rule changes in the NAIA, the Warriors will play a Region I league schedule with three-game home and away series against the other five Region I teams – British Columbia, Albertson, Oregon Tech, Concordia, and Corban. LCSC also must take part in postseason play even though it is guaranteed a berth in the 10-team Avista NAIA World Series, which runs May 25-June 1 this year at Harris Field.

In all tournament games, 49 regular-season contests will be played at Harris Field, 37 of which will involve LCSC (Click here to go to the full schedule or scroll down tournament information).
