Warrior Track Performs Well

4-7-07

Lewis-Clark State runners made a statement In their first meet since the recent announcement of the official addition of women's track and field.

Competing in the Willamette Invite in Salem, Ore., the Warrior harriers posted seven personal bests and three times that met either the automatic or provisional standards for the NAIA national championships in late May.

The biggest highlights of the day began as Junior Aaron Galbraith broke his own school record in the 5000 meters in a provisional time of 15:10.06.  However the record was short-lived as in the last heat of the 5000 teammate Calin Hantau surpassed the automatic standard finishing in 14:56.21.  Hantau may have run even faster, but earlier in the day ran in the 1500 meter race finishing with a provisional time of 3:56.12.  Other members of the men's team ran well with Sophomore Adrian Ramirez and Freshman Eric Tuwei setting personal bests in the 5000 meter race going 15:44.80 and 15:45.97 respectively.  Freshman Brett Fowler of Asotin ran a good 1500 meter race finishing in 4:22.01 despite a near face plant 400 meters into the race.

The women had an impressive day as well with Freshman Kyli Astle setting a personal best by more than ten seconds in the 1500 meters going 4:58.19.  Four other warrior women ran in the 5000 meter race with Sophomore Katja Palm-Loevslett leading the way finishing in 18:37.09, just 12 seconds off of an NAIA qualifying time and a personal best by almost a minute.  She was followed in close tow by Junior Emily Perkins (18:54.60), Senior Jenny Jensen (19:16.29) and Freshman Lindsay Szybura (19:49.11).

The Warriors will run again next weekend at Whitworth's Sam Adams Classic.
