Women's basketball:
The Warriors look to claim their fourth
unofficial tournament title this weekend
when they play host to the Wells Fargo
Classic.
Because of the pre-determined format in all
tournaments LCSC will play in during the
regular season, an official tournament
champion isn't crowned. However, the
Warriors went 3-0 in a tournament at
Westminster, 2-0 in its own Staples Classic
and 2-0 in the Holy Names University
Thanksgiving Classic in Oakland, Calif., to
lay claim to the unofficial titles.
This weekend, the Warriors face an old
nemsis in Simon Fraser. The two were rivals
during the 1990s until LCSC joined the
Frontier Conference and Simon Fraser dropped
out of the NAIA.
The Warriors stand 8-1 on the season and are
ranked No. 10 in the NAIA. They suffered
their first loss of the season last weekend
to Seattle Pacific, which is ranked No. 19
in NCAA Division II.
Simon Fraser brings an 11-1 record to
Lewiston, but has only played Canadian
schools. It's lone loss is to the University
of British Columbia by two points and
features one of the tallest front lines LCSC
will face this season.
Kathryn Hole, a 6-foot-2 post, leads Simon
Fraser in scoring at 12.2 points per game.
Laurelle Wiegl, a 6-4 post, is second at
11.5 points.
George Fox is an NCAA Division III school
and is coming off a 58-50 win over No.
19-ranked Puget Sound. The Bruins, who have
put together 13 consecutive winning seasons,
stand 4-1 overall, losing only to Linfield
in overtime.
Aundrea Morrison leads LCSC in scoring at
14.2 points per game, but she is closely
followed by Ashley Baker’s 14.1 and Janeen
Nelson’s 12.7 per game. Katie Hart is
leading the way in steals and assists, while
LCSC’s all-time leading rebounder, Ashley
Baker, is tops on the team with 7.9 rebounds
per game.
The two contests start a seven-game home
stand for the Warriors, which includes their
league opener on Jan. 6 against
Westminster.
Men's basketball:
Having won three of their last four, the
Warrior men look to keep rolling this
weekend in the Hillyer's Mid-City Ford
Classic at Corban College in Salem, Ore.
The Warriors, 5-3 overall, take on host
Corban on Friday. Corban is just 1-9 on the
season. including a 74-56 setback to LCSC in
Lewiston two weeks ago. Wade Douglas, a 6-5
forward, leads Corban in scoring at 14.1
points per game, while 6-4 Jason Braun is
averaging 12.1 points.
On Saturday, LCSC meets Oregon Tech, which
stands 11-0 and is ranked No. 4 in the NAIA
Division II poll.
Ryan Fiegi, a 6-7 junior forward, leas OIT
in scoring at 17 points per game, while
Levell Hesia, a 5-5 guard, and Josh Garrett,
a 6-1 guard, are averaging 15.0 and 14.8
points, respectively.
Mike Gordy, a 6-5 junior forward, continues
to lead the Warriors in scoring (16.9
points) and rebounding (5.9 boards). Teran
Lee, a 6-3 senior, is also in double figures
at 12.1 per game.
These are the final two road games for LCSC,
which returns to Lewiston for six
consecutive home games, starting on Dec. 15
against Biola at 7 p.m.
Tennis:
The LCSC men's and women's tennis teams are
holding a Willow Team Challenge junior
tennis marathon as a fundraiser for the
Willow Center in Lewiston. The event, which
is for youth ages 11-18, will take place at
the LCSC Tennis Center at 9 a.m.-9 p.m. All
proceeds benefit the Willow Center, which
provides free grief support to children in
the Lewis-Clark Valley who have suffered the
loss of a loved one.
The format for the event features two youths
teamed with two members of the LCSC men's
and women's tennis team to make up a
four-person team. Teams will play in various
time slots throughout the 12 hours, so
players must have schedule flexibility.
Youth players will be awarded 10
opportunities to serve for sports prizes at
the end of a time period.
The registration fee is $20 per youth
without a T-shirt, or $25 with a T-shirt.
Registration forms are available at the LCSC
Tennis Center and The Sports Authority in
Lewiston. No phone entries will be accepted.
Each participant will receive a souvenir
photo.
