VOLLEYBALL:

The Lewis-Clark State College women’s volleyball team wraps up the home portion of its 2006 schedule this weekend with a pair of Frontier Conference matches at the Activity Center.

On Friday, the Warriors play host to Montana State-Northern at 5 p.m. The contest was originally scheduled for later in the evening but has been changed to the 5 p.m. start. On Saturday, the Warriors face league-leading Great Falls at 2 p.m.

LCSC enters this weekend at 2-8 in league and 6-15 overall, looking to gain some momentum for the conference tournament, which will be held Nov. 9-11. After this weekend, the Warriors will play three matches on the road next week, including a Nov. 1 meeting in Caldwell against nationally ranked Albertson College.

Montana State-Northern stands a game ahead of the Warriors in the conference standings in sixth place at 3-7 and brings a 5-11 overall mark into the contest. Earlier this season, LCSC swept Northern in Havre.

Great Falls enters this week’s play on a roll, having won nine straight to stand 10-1 in league and 17-6 overall. Westminster, at 9-1, is the only other team in the conference title chase.

During Saturday’s contest, the Warriors will acknowledge their two seniors who will be playing in their final collegiate match at Lewiston. Julie Nebeker, a 5-foot-5 libero from Pocatello, and Dawn Ingham, a 5-7 libero from Capistrano Beach, Calif., are the two players who will be acknowledged.

Frontier League records – Great Falls 10-1, Westminster 9-1, Carroll 6-4, Rocky Mountain 6-5, Montana Tech 4-6, Montana State-Northern 3-7, LCSC 2-8, Montana-Western 1-9.

CROSS COUNTRY:

The Warrior men’s and women’s cross country team will prepare for regional competition in two weeks by holding a fun walk/run at Lewiston’s Kiwanis Park on Saturday.

The David G. “Doc” Sears Fall Classic, named after former LCSC Kinesiology professor David Sears, will be held, starting at 9 a.m. and will consist of two course – a 2-mile walk or a 5-mile run. The 5-mile course will consist of one loop of the Interstate and Southway bridges and will finish near the Kiwanis shelter. The 2-mile course will start at the same spot in Kiwanis Park and will head north for a mile before turning around and coming back for the final mile.

Registration for the run is $16, which includes a cartoon by Sears on a tie-dye shirt, or $10 without the shirt. Registration will start at 8 a.m. on race day at Kiwanis Park.

Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female runner and medals will be awarded to the overall winner in each age group, while the second- and third-place finishers receive ribbons. Ribbons also will be awarded to the fastest three walkers.

Online registration forms are available at http://www.lcsc.edu/crosscountry/2006%20RACE%20SITES/2006_Doc_ENTRY.htm and are also available at Tri-State Outfitters, Adcope, Yo Espresso and the LCSC Athletic Department, all in Lewiston.
