VOLLEYBALL:

The Warriors look to get back on the winning track this week as they play at Walla Walla College Tuesday night and then resume Frontier Conference action at home against Montana Tech on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the LCSC Activity Center.

LCSC stands at 0-2 in conference play and 2-9 overall, while Walla Walla College is 6-4 overall.

As expected with a young team that features nine freshmen and sophomores seeing significant playing time, the Warriors have struggled with consistency this season. Still, this is a talented team and appears to be coming together.

“It’s all about consistency and when we get that consistency, we will win matches,” LCSC coach Erin Mellinger said. “I’m going to say this a lot this season but we’re young, more mentally than physically. We don’t look young physically, but mentally we’re still young.”

Junior Julie Maciboba leads the Warriors in kills this season with 91, while freshmen Kelly Scott and Dana Christiansen are next with 89 and 66, respectively. Freshman Lisa Davis has 193 assists, while sophomore Mindy Meyer has 138. Sophomore Lindsay Scott, with her patent jump serve, leads the team with 14 aces, while Brittney Kubik has 11. Linsday Scott also leads the team in digs with 132, while senior Dawn Ingham has 130. Kubik tops the team in blocks with 31.

Montana Tech stands 1-1 in league play and 6-8 overall.

GOLF:

The Warrior men’s and women’s golf teams are playing the opening 36 holes today in the Carroll College Invitational at the Green Meadow Country Club in Helena, Mont. The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday.

LCSC will then head to Montana for a third straight week on Sunday to participate in the Rocky Mountain Tournament at Billings, next Monday and Tuesday. The tournament will follow the same format with 36 holes on the first day and 18 on the final day.

The Frontier Conference plays a split fall and spring schedule because most golf courses in Montana don’t open until late spring, which makes it tough to schedule tournaments at each competing school.

Both tournaments will count in the overall conference standings. The Warriors are one of the favorites to win both the men’s and the women’s league titles, which they did last season.

CROSS COUNTRY:

The Warriors will take this week off before competing in the Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore., on Sept. 30.

The LCSC men are expected to climb in this week’s NAIA national poll after an impressive performance last weekend in the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle. The Warrior men placed sixth out of 28 teams in the open division as they defeated both Simon Fraser and British Columbia in the process.

The LCSC women tied for eighth overall.

The LCSC men were ranked No. 21 in last week’s poll, while Simon Fraser was sixth and British Columbia No. 14. The LCSC women are ranked No. 14.
