WARRIORS FINISH SECOND AT HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS INVITATIONAL

LCSC Beats Frontier Conference Foe Great Falls, But Loses To Oregon Tech In Finals

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Lewis-Clark State College Volleyball team took second place at the 2003 Holiday Inn Express Invitation, losing to Oregon Tech in the finals Saturday night in Warrior Gym.

The Warriors (5-4) continued to roll Saturday afternoon, amassing their fifth win in a row by defeating Frontier Conference foe University of Great Falls 30-19, 30-25, 30-19.  By finishing atop Group B after Friday’s competition, the Warriors had a bye Saturday morning before meeting Great Falls who beat University of Victoria earlier in the day

The Warriors were led by senior middle blocker Amy Flaig (Missoula, Mont.) who recorded 14 kills to lead the match.  Flaig was a force from the service line as she connected on five aces in the match.  Senior Kim Condor (Puyallup Wash.) and freshman Marie Lauder (Fort MacLeod, Alberta) each recorded seven kills in the win. Defensively, Condor led the Warriors with 12 digs in the match.  Junior transfer Anna Johnson (Junction City, Ore.) registered a match-high 31 assists and dug 11 balls. 

Freshman Ashli Bever (Vancouver, Wash.) had an impressive match recording three kills off the bench and junior Addy Hines (Kalispell, Mont.) had seven kills and two service aces in the win

The Argos of Great Falls were led by Kristen Carter and Stephanie Smith.  Carter recorded six kills and seven digs, while Smith led the team with nine kills.  The Argos finished the tournament in fourth place behind Warner Pacific, Lewis-Clark State, and Oregon Tech.

In the finals of the Tournament LCSC faced off with Oregon Tech for the second time in three days. In their first meeting, the Warriors beat the Owls of Tech 3-1 after falling behind 0-1.  In the Finals of the Holiday Inn Express Tournament it seemed the Owls remembered, beating the Warriors 30-20, 30-28, 30-28, to win the match in three games straight.

The Warriors were led by Seniors Kim Condor and Lindsay Iroume (Morinville, Alberta) who had 11 and nine kills respectively to lead the team.  Senior Libero, Courtney Callaghan, had a solid game defensively amassing 10 kills.  Redshirt junior Amanda Page (Albany, Ore.) led the team with 13 digs and added seven kills in the loss

The Owls were led by tournament team selections Marcie Mitzer, Christina Merrill, and Megan Albertson.  Merrill tied teammate Anita Stanford for the match-high in kills with 13 while Mitzer added 12 in the win.  Oregon Tech’s Julie Dancer led the match with 14 digs and added five kills
