SALT LAKE CITY -- With just four baskets from inside the arc, the Lewis-Clark State women's basketball team sustained a 64-56 Frontier Conference setback to Westminster on Saturday night.
The Warriors went 17-for-62 from the field, which included a 13-for-30 showing from 3-point range. So that computes to a 4-for-32 mark from 2-point territory.
"Our downfall all night was that we couldn't make baskets," said L-C coach Brian Orr, whose team shot 27.4 percent.
Yet the 19th-ranked Warriors were in contention until the end. They fought out of a nine-point halftime deficit, pulling to within 44-43 of a pair of Ashley Baker free throws. But the Griffins never surrendered the lead.
Baker, L-C's outstanding freshman post, had a difficult night, shooting 0-for-6 from the floor and scoring five points -- which matched her season-low output. She did grab a team-high 12 rebounds.
Most of the Warriors' offense came from Jessica Foot, who tallied 19 points, and Cami Kalbfleisch, who managed 17. Those two combined to go 11-for-18 from behind the arc.
Westminster inside duo Shalee Fackrell and Rebekah Steenblik each recorded 15 points. The Griffins' top scorer was guard Emily Johnson, who exploded for 20 points.
L-C dropped to 15-6 overall and 3-2 in conference. The Warriors will be at home against Great Falls on Thursday and Montana State-Northern on Saturday.
