Lewis-Clark State's two Wenatchee Valley transfers, Nikki Haerling and Spencer Bishop, were named the Frontier Conference's top newcomer and defender, respectively, in the league's basketball awards, announced Monday.

The Warriors women were represented by Haerling and sophomore post Ashley Baker on the first team. Senior forward Kendra West was a second-team pick.

The LCSC men had seniors Martin Brothers and Danny Allen on the first team. Junior forward John Moore was a second-team pick.

Haerling, who, like Bishop, transferred from the central Washington school during the offseason, averaged 14.4 points and 3.7 assists from her point guard position.

Bishop became the Warriors' starting off guard midway through the regular season. His most memorable defensive battles came against Montana-Western's Matt Luedtke, who was the NAIA's third leading scorer at 24.4 points per game when the Lights came to Lewiston in late January. Bishop held Luedtke to three points in that game.

The L-C men, who won the FC tournament Saturday, will make their second consecutive appearance in the NAIA Division I national tournament beginning March 16 at Kansas City, Mo. Pairings will be announced Wednesday.
