Four
Warriors Earn All-Conference Honors; Orr
named Co-Coach of the Year
3-7-06
With the
2005-2006 regular season coming to an end,
both the men’s and women’s basketball teams
at Lewis-Clark State College have a lot to
be proud of. As a testament to the success
and effort shown by Lewis-Clark State
College athletes this past season, the
Frontier Conference has announced that two
Warriors have been named to the First Team
All-Conference, two to the Second Team, and
that Coach Brian Orr has been named Co-Coach
of the Year.
The men’s
season on paper looks close to
disappointing, but in actuality the 2005-06
season was another successful step by a
program that has a very promising future.
Notably, if the Warriors did not have to
forfeit their first five wins, their regular
season record would actually stand at
18-11—a very impressive statistic
considering the level of competition
featured in the Frontier Conference. During
the year the men knocked off tough teams
such as, Westminster (66-57 in Salt Lake
City, Utah), the University of Great Falls,
and Corban College twice. Overall, the men’s
program did not accomplish all of their
goals, but there were many positives. One
such positive was a point guard who emerged
late in the season to lead the team in
scoring. Jonathan Burnett, who sat out the
early part of the season due to
ineligibility but played extremely well and
led the team in the second half, earned
Second Team All-Conference honors.
Going 24-5 during the regular
season, the success of Lewis-Clark State
College’s women’s team goes without saying.
Ashley Baker and Aundrea Morrison, who were
the team and, at times, conference leaders
in scoring and rebounding, were
All-Conference First Team selections, and
Jade Fulbright who had another great year
defensively, leading the conference in
steals (averaging 3.17 per game), was named
to the Second Team All-Conference. The
success of the team and of the individual
players is a direct reflection of good
coaching, and consequently, the Frontier
Conference has selected head coaches Brian
Orr and UM-Western’s Kevin Engellant as the
Co-Coaches of the Year.
