Morrison's big night helps L-C beat Great Falls

GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- The Lewis-Clark State women believe they have no room for error in their Frontier Conference title run.

But Aundrea Morrison at least gave them some breathing room.

The 6-foot post scored 20 points and stretched Great Falls' defense with two 3-pointers Saturday night as the Warriors took an 87-69 win.

Despite a loss Friday night at Montana State-Northern, Lewis-Clark State (22-4, 10-2) can claim a league title by winning its last two regular-season games.

"We must win every game to win the league, and it started tonight," Warriors coach Brian Orr said. "We probably played as hard as we'd played the last two weeks."

The Warriors shot 9-of-17 from 3-point range, and Morrison's two long-range shots, in three attempts, were her first of the season.

"We've encouraged her to take that shot all year," Orr said. "She's got the shooting range, and it was really nice to see her hit those. People have been packing (their defense) in on us."

Terri Wittmer was perfect in three 3-point tries for L-C, scoring 11 points, and Ashley Baker added 13 points.

The Warriors also had "great intensity on defense," said Orr, who lauded the play of 6-2 reserve post Vanessa West. "That was probably one of the best games she's played all year. She defended, she rebounded, she got a couple of key baskets."

Great Falls (7-20, 3-9) outrebounded Lewis-Clark State 33-31 and met some success with its transition game.

The Warriors play host to Montana Tech on Thursday night, and their league title hopes may come down to another home game Saturday night against Montana-Western.
