Do what you can, with
what you have, where you are.
-Theodore Roosevelt
I
have already broken my promise, haven’t I? Last time I
said that I would be prompt in writing my next entry.
It’s only been two weeks this time instead of four, so
that is an improvement, right?
Since we last met, we have
officially started our season, and it seems to be flying
by already.
We host the Staples tournament this weekend, and those
will be our first two home games. There is nothing
better than playing in front of a hometown crowd.
Last weekend we were in Salt Lake
City, UT for a three day tournament at Westminster. We
are now 3-0. We played a team from Georgia, a team from
California, and Albertson College of Idaho. The best
part about the weekend was the overall performance of
our team. Everyone stepped up when they were called
upon. I’m proud to say that I’m on the most unselfish
team in the nation. No one cares about their own glory,
but rather the success of our team. I’m so proud of the
way everyone played. It’s so hard for me to pick out
certain people but I’ll just say that Mandy was a stud,
Kim shot the lights out, and Madison showed great poise
in her first games as a college player.
The week prior, we had two
exhibition games against Washington State and Boise
State. The Washington State game seemed like a replay
of last year’s match-up. We led the entire game until
the last six minutes. We ended up losing by six, just
like last year. The next morning we left early and
headed south to Boise. We were accompanied by 23 of our
closest friends and sponsors. It was a long weekend,
and we didn’t play very well. But it was nice to have
some familiar faces in the stands.
Over the last weekend I had the
pleasure of getting to know our freshmen, Madison
Mendezona a little better. She was my roommate for the
five days we were in Salt Lake. She is really a
wonderful girl, but I know that isn’t a surprise. Poor
girl had to deal with me all weekend which can be a
difficult task, but she managed and we all made it home
safely.
Things are as they should be, and
we are having a great time together. School is a little
crazy right now, but that is how it goes with
basketball. Next week we are headed to California for a
little Thanksgiving tournament, which means we get to
ride on another airplane! Don’t get me wrong, I love
long bus rides, but airplanes have a much stronger
appeal.
I want to give a quick shout out to
one of our scholarship club members, Liz Chavez. Liz
won her race for District 7 State Representative this
last week. I want to congratulate her on behalf of our
team. We are very proud!
