"I have missed
more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost
300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take
the game winning shot . . . and missed. And I have
failed over and over and over again in my life. And that
is why . . . I succeed."
-Michael Jordan
I was recently
informed that we have a few fans back on the east coast
that are keeping updated. I hope you guys in Jackson are
ready for us, again. This year we will be sticking
around a few days longer because we have some unfinished
business.
We have made a
good run thus far, after this weekend of games we are
now 5-0. The hardest part about starting out strong is
staying that way from here on out. This weekend we beat
our opponents pretty soundly, but that’s what happens
when have people like Janeen Nelson that can shoot the
lights out with defense right up in her grill. Janeen
had a standout weekend and was named MVP of the Staples
Tournament. Our other honoree was Katie Hart. It might
sound cliché, but one really shouldn’t judge a book by
it’s cover. Katie, the smallest player on the court, had
nine rebounds in the first half of Saturday’s game and
finished with 12.
Perhaps the
best part of the tournament was when Ashley demonstrated
her excellent shirt-throwing skills. I will do my best
to reenact the "incident" with words, but just know it
was hysterical. Staples was the sponsor of our
tournament and they gave us t-shirts to throw to the
crowd during the starting lineups. Ashley tried to throw
her shirt granny style, but the shirt went straight up
in the air and fell back to her feet. She said the tape
that was wrapped around the shirt stuck to her fingers.
Whatever the case, that image will be stuck in my brain
for years to come. Speaking of Staples, we would like to
thank them for hosting another great tournament. They
are great supporters of Warrior athletics and we
couldn’t be luckier.
It was nice
getting to play at home, but we are headed out again.
Thursday we leave for Oakland to play Holy Names
University and Dominican University. Since we won’t be
having a traditional Thanksgiving, Terri’s parents made
us a pseudo-Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday night. We’ve
had leftovers every day since then. We definitely aren’t
going hungry!
On behalf of
our team, Happy Thanksgiving to all. Eat a little extra
turkey in our honor, and we’ll bring you back a couple
wins. I think that’s a fair tradeoff.
