Orr, five Warrior Women honored by Frontier Conference
3-4-07

Lewis-Clark State College women’s basketball coach Brian Orr was selected the Frontier Conference’s coach of the Year, while the Warriors had five players selected to the conference’s first or second team in a vote by the league coaches.

Senior post Ashley Baker, junior guard Jade Fulbright, and senior forward Aundrea Morrison all were chosen to the all-conference first team, while Katie Hart and Janeen Nelson were second-team selections. Morrison was chosen despite missing the final half of conference play because of a season-ending knee injury.

Orr led the Warrior women to an outstanding year as the team will take a 30-2 record to the national tournament, which opens March 14 in Jackson, Tenn. The Warriors had a 22-game win streak snapped on Saturday night in a 71-69 setback to Carroll College in the conference’s tournament championship game. The 30 wins is the second-highest total in program history.

LCSC finished the regular season undefeated in conference play at 14-0 and was ranked No. 2 in the NAIA.

Baker, a 6-foot-3 senior from Omak, Wash., finished third in the conference Player of the Year voting. LCSC’s all-time leading rebounder led the team in both scoring at 15.4 points and rebounding at 8.6 per game. She also led the team in blocked shots and hit 50 percent of her shots from the field. She also recorded seven double-doubles this year.

She was joined on the first team by Morrison, a 6-0 senior post from Hermiston, Ore., who only played in 20 games this season because of injuries. She missed a couple of game at the start of the year and then injured herself late in a win at Carroll College that ended her two-year career at LCSC. She averaged 14.1 points and 5.5 rebounds a game, and shot 56.1 percent from the field.

Fulbright, a 5-8 junior guard from Wenatchee, Wash., finished fourth on the team in scoring at 10.1 points and averaged nearly three rebounds a game. She led LCSC in steals with 67, was second on the field in field goals, assists, and free-throw percentage.

Hart, a 5-4 junior guard from Ellensburg, Wash., led the Warriors in assists and was second on the team in steals. She averaged 4.6 points and 3.9 rebounds a game.

Nelson, a 5-9 senior guard from Roosevelt, Utah, led the Warriors in 3-pointers with 69 and was third on the team in scoring at 11.6 points per game. She also was third on the team in steals.
