LCSC women stay at
No. 10 in final NAIA
poll; assured of
national berth
3-5-08
The top 10 spots in the
final NAIA women’s
basketball poll remained the
same, which means
Lewis-Clark State finishes
the regular season as the
No. 10-ranked team in the
country.
The Warriors are the first
team from outside Tennessee,
California, and Oklahoma to
be ranked in the poll.
Defending champion Union,
which plays host to the
national tournament in
Jackson, Tenn., is 29-0 on
the season and drew all 11
first-place votes.
The Warriors are 22-4
overall heading into their
opener at the Frontier
Conference tournament at 5
p.m. tonight (Wednesday)
against Great Falls in
Butte, Mont. The Warriors
won their final two games of
the season last week.
Win or lose, the Warriors
are guaranteed a berth at
the national tournament,
which is March 19-25 at Oman
Arena. The championship is a
32-team,
single-elimination
tournament featuring 16
automatic qualifiers from 11
Division I affiliated
conferences, one independent
qualifier, and 15 at-large
berths.
Carroll College, which fell
one spot to No. 13 this
week, also is guaranteed a
national tournament berth on
the basis of being ranked
among the top 15.
Westminster, at No. 18, just
needs four teams ahead of it
in the poll to win
conference titles to also be
assured of a national
tournament berth.
The official announcement of
the 32-team field for the 71st
Annual Buffalo Funds-NAIA
Division I National
Championship will occur late
on Tuesday. The announcement
of the official bracket will
happen on Wednesday by 3
p.m.
